Captain Charlie Moser from Sail Away in Hawaii

Captain Charlie Moser has sailed since 1963 across many oceans in the U.S. Navy and as a private sailor on solo voyages.   He served in the U.S. Navy as a deep-sea diver and diving school instructor for more than 25 years and is a Vietnam Veteran. After retiring from the Navy, he served as the Captain of a 90-ft commercial schooner for Windjammer dinner cruises. He has owned many sailboats over the years and has sailed many times around the Hawaiian Islands since 1974. His open ocean sails from Oahu have included the islands of Molokai, Lanai, Maui, Big Island, and Kauai on boats ranging in length from 22 feet to 44 feet. He made his first solo ocean voyage in 2010 from Hawaii to the Philippines in a 34-ft boat and a second sail to the Philippines in 2019 in a Jeanneau 42 DS Sun Odyssey.   He has also sailed across the Sea of Cortez from Mexico to Hawaii. His most recent solo voyage was in 2024 from San Francisco to Hawaii.

Captain Charlie has had a U.S. Coast Guard captain’s license (100-ton power and sail) since 1990 and recently renewed for 2024-2029. He also is authorized by the State of Hawaii to marry couples.
